No. 5 Tech holds off Rocky on the road
BILLINGS — Rocky Mountain scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome a potent Montana Tech attack as the No. 5 Orediggers held on for a 34-28 Frontier Conference victory.
Tech (3-0 Frontier, 3-0 overall) started fast, with Quinn McQueary tossing a 75-yard touchdown pass to Dion Williams on the game’s first offensive play. McQueary ran for two more touchdowns in the first half to help the Diggers to a 20-0 lead at the break.
Rocky (2-1, 2-2) scored on its first possession of the third quarter but Tech answered immediately with a touchdown on its next possession. Tech built its lead to 34-7 by the close of the third quarter.
The Bears responded in the fourth, when Jacob Bakken found Max Gray for a 40-yard touchdown to open the quarter. Melby added another score and after fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Bakken found Lucas Overton to cut the Tech lead to six points with 5:21 to play.
That was as close as it would get, as the Diggers ran out the clock on an 11-play drive to end the game.
Reid Siderius (Glacier) had two tackles for Tech and Tucker Rauthe (Glacier) had one.

No. 11 Eastern Oregon 20
CALDWELL, Idaho — College of Idaho (1-2, 1-3) scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to upset the Raiders (1-2, 1-2).
No. 14 Southern Oregon 52, Montana Western 28
ASHLAND, Ore. — Southern Oregon (3-0, 3-0) scored 35 straight points to run away with a win over Montana Western (1-2, 1-3).
Western’s George Sherwood (Flathead) hauled in a 19-yard touchdown to stop the run, but the Bulldogs couldn’t keep pace.
Sherwood had a team-high six receptions for 60 yards and had four punts for an average of 41 yards in the loss.
Carroll 34, MSU-Northern 3
HELENA — The Carroll defense smothered MSU-Northern (0-3, 0-3) in a dominant victory.
The Saints (1-2, 1-2) held Northern to just 45 rushing yards and limited the Lights to a field goal in the win.
Dylan Torgerson (Flathead) had 38- and 22-yard field goals and one punt for 45 yards for the Saints.
Carroll’s Brian FauntLeRoy (Whitefish) had one tackle.
