Hill 9th, Morley 11th at Firman cross country meet

BOISE, Idaho — Glacier senior Annie Hill couldn’t keep pace with a fast lead pack, finishing ninth at the Bob Firman Invitational cross country meet on Saturday at Eagle Island State Park.

On the same course where Hill won the Nike Cross Northwest Regional last year, she fell behind, finishing in 18 minutes, 10.2 seconds. Bigfork’s Bryn Morley finished in 11th in 18:11.6.

Idaho’s Lexy Halladay won the elite girls race in 17:37.8 pulling away from Bozeman senior Camila Noe, who paced the race and finished in 17:39.7.

The Bozeman girls were second as a team and Missoula Hellgate finished 10th.

The Bozeman boys placed fourth as a team behind senior Duncan Hamilton, who came in third in 15:20.7. Glacier junior Aren Alexander-Battee was the top local finisher, crossing the line in 69th in 16:33.9.

Butte Invitational

BUTTE — Junior Ben Perrin garnered runner-up honors individually, and both Flathead teams placed near the top of the field at the Butte Invitational.

Perrin finished in 16 minutes flat, 23 seconds behind the boys winner, Cooper West of Great Falls C.M. Russell.

“I thought he ran pretty well,” Flathead boys cross country coach Paul Jorgensen said.

“He only had one race under his belt.”

The Bravettes finished third out of 15 scoring teams in a field that included all but three Class AA schools.

Kaitlin Wride led the Flathead girls with a fifth-place finish in 19:19.

“That was a better performance than I was expecting out of here,” Flathead girls cross country coach Jesse Rumsey said.

“She really pushed hard. She had a great final mile.”

Tori Noland-Gillespie slipped into the top 10 with a 19:31, and Meaghan Fisher, Sadie Wilson and Hailey Allen finished within 18 seconds of one another to round out the scoring for Flathead.

“I’m very happy with how the girls ran,” Rumsey said.

“We’ve been two weeks without competition, so we’ve been working very hard to maintain.”

The Braves placed fifth out of 21 teams competing in the boys competition.

Keaton Fischer and Griffin Fischer followed Perrin in 17:12 and 17:15, respectively.

Kyle Calles finished 57th and Parker Gillespie placed 60th to score for Flathead.

Billings Senior captured both the boys and girls team titles.

“We did pretty well considering we haven’t raced in over two weeks and most of our kids have only run once or twice,” Jorgensen said.

“There’s an opportunity for improvement there.”

Both Flathead teams return to action next Saturday at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula.

Hamilton Invitational

HAMILTON — Gabe Knudsen was the top individual runner for Columbia Falls at the Hamilton High School Sports Complex.

Knudsen finished fourth with a time of 17 minutes, 16.3 seconds.

Matt Wilson of Hamilton had a winning time of 16:48.87.

James Rule and Joe Lamb finished seventh and eighth, respectively for Columbia Falls.

Corvallis claimed the team title with 37 points. Columbia Falls, 77, was third.

Corvallis also came out on top in the girls competition with the same point total.

Lyric Devries of Hamilton had the top time, 19:54.1, while Lara Erickson of Columbia Falls was fifth, 21:49.3.
