Authorities ID pedestrian killed on U.S. 2
Authorities have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the road near East Glacier on Sunday night.
The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday identified the woman as 62-year-old Susan Green of Browning.
A Chevy Suburban towing a trailer was heading east on U.S. 2 at about 9 p.m. Sunday when the driver reportedly saw a person in dark clothing standing in the road facing the vehicle.
The driver, a 37-year-old man from Browning, told law enforcement officers he wasn’t able to attempt any kind of maneuver to avoid hitting the pedestrian because the distance between the woman and the vehicle was too short to give him time to react. Green was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, Montana Highway Patrol, Blackfeet EMS and East Glacier fire responded to the crash.
Alcohol or excessive speed were not determined to be a factor for the driver of the vehicle that struck Green, according to the Montana High Patrol. It is unknown why Green may have been in the roadway at the time of the crash, said Montana Highway Patrol trooper Michael Driemeyer.
Montana Highway Patrol and the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
