Evergreen School District Superintendent Laurie Barron has been named a finalist for the Women in School Leadership Awards by the AASA, the School Superintendents Association.

The awards recognize female educators around the nation who are exceptional leaders making a difference in the lives of students and honors their talent, creativity and vision.

“Fewer than 25 percent of school district leaders are female, which means it’s essential to create opportunities that will bring more women into the field of education administration,” said AASA Executive Director Daniel Domenech in a press release.

Barron learned she had been nominated for the superintendent award by a colleague and then submitted an application for consideration.

“It’s an incredible honor, but I think that all of us know it’s those around you that make things happen,” Barron said. “I work hard; I’m passionate; I have a strong desire to help kids and staff, but I work with a great bunch of people.”

Barron also remarked on the leadership of superintendents in the valley who pulled together recently to make decisions as events unfolded regarding cyber threats that led to school closures.

“I think we’re really fortunate in the Flathead to have strong leaders. A good example of that is in these past couple of days how united we were,” Barron said.

Award recipients will be announced during a conference on Feb. 15-17, 2018, in Tennessee. For more information visit http://www.aasa.org/.
