| April 4, 2018 4:51 PM

The Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation invites guitarists to ask themselves “Why I Play”  and apply for a scholarship to this summer’s Crown Guitar Workshop Aug. 26 - Sept. 1. Students, teachers and performers of all ages and abilities who reside in western Montana are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applications are due by Tuesday, May 31 and the workshop will be held at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork.

The scholarship offers intensive workshop classes led by a world-class faculty as well as master clinics featuring a roster of invited Artists in Residence. Daily electives, nightly jams and evening Crown Guitar Festival concerts are included. The classes are lauded for being personalized and non-competitive, offering students an opportunity to collaborate and also enjoy the recreational amenities of Flathead Lake Lodge. Each scholarship is valued at $5,000.

Teacher and student/performer applicants need to have taught guitar or been performing for at least two years and have been a resident of the Flathead, Lake, Sanders, Missoula or Ravalli counties for at least one year.

Guitar teachers can be either teaching privately or in a school setting. They must complete an application, write an essay about the role of guitar in their life, considering why they play, and submit a YouTube video. Financial need will be taken into consideration. Awards will be announced on Friday, June 15.
