Markus “Mark” Dale Smith, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born April 13, 1954 in Kalispell to Marion “Buzzy” and Vivian “Patty” Smith. Mark graduated from Bigfork High School in 1973, where he played basketball and football. Upon graduation he joined the apprenticeship to be a lineman at Mountain State Line Constructors. He then went to work for King’s Construction on the steel towers at the Libby Dam. After King he worked for companies that included Harp Line, Northern Light, Mountain Power, Par Electrical Construction and Flathead Electric, as well as others. In the midst of these adventures he married the love of his life, Frances Fae Glazier, on Oct. 24, 1975. Mark finished his working career as an assistant manager at the Local Union Hall IBEW 768.

Mark loved his family and friends, hunting, fishing and old cars. His favorite place on earth was anywhere outside. Mark will be remembered most for his contagious laugh, quick wit, tremendous heart and his love, devotion and loyalty to his family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Mike, and his sister, Vickie Jo Smith-Lopez.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Frances Fae Smith, and sons Mason, Miles and Ryan Smith; grandchildren Trenton and wife Amber Smith of Kalispell, Dakota Smith of Kalispell, Lynae Reep of Missoula and Thelina Conley of Bigfork, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at the Eagles.
