Three FGA gymnasts at Regional 2 Championships

Three gymnasts from Kalispell’s Flathead Gymnastics Academy qualified for the Region 2 Championships in Tacoma, Washington, this weekend thanks to their performances at the state championships in Billings on March 16-17.

Lucy Toelcke won the all-around state championship at Level 9, becoming the first athlete from FGA to qualify for regionals at that level in the past seven years. At regionals, she’ll attempt to qualify for the Level 9 Western National Championships, which will be held in Salt Lake City on May 4-6.

Sienna LaChance and Shaydi Huston, both Level 8, placed in the top eight in Montana and will compete on the state’s Level 8 all-star team in addition to the regular regional competition. They will battle similar teams from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii.

Huston finished third in the all-around competition at the state championships.

All told, out of 41 athletes competing at state for FGA, eight earned all-around state championships and 21 took home a state title in an individual event (five in vault, three in uneven bars, six in balance beam and seven in floor exercise).

As a team, FGA finished second at Level 3, third at Level 2, and fourth at Levels 4, 6, 8, 9 and 10.

Maddie Young (Level 3), Lauren McManus (Level 3), Brie Tweedy (Level 3), Emma Pate (Level 4), Josie Baines (Level 4), Kaitleen To (Level 4), Lilah Rodriguez (Level 4) and Toelcke each won all-around state championships individually in thier respective age groups.
