Helena Capital and Helena High made quick work of Flathead and Glacier on Saturday, beating the two Kalispell schools by a combined 40-6 over four Western AA conference softball games.

Capital handled Glacier 7-0 while Helena beat Flathead 9-1 in the opening games, and Helena defeated Glacier 7-3 as Capital clobbered Flathead 17-2 in the nightcap.

Flathead’s loss to Capital was shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Kynzie Mohl led the Glacier (1-3) offense with three hits on the day, and Allee Meyer continued her hot start to the season with a solo home run against Helena.

“We need to just produce more runs,” Glacier coach Abby Connolly said. “We’re getting a decent amount of hits each game, but we need to figure out how to get those runs across.”

Glacier tallied eight hits in its shutout loss to Capital and five versus Helena High.

Sage Vanterpool took both losses for Glacier, but Connolly was complimentary of her work in the circle.

“She threw two great games,” Connolly said. “As a defense, we need to back her up so her production matches her effort out there.”

Jayden Russell collected three hits for Flathead (0-4) in the two games combined, and Kaileigh Denna had two hits. One of Denna’s hits was a two-run home run against Capital, her second four-bagger of the young season.

“It was much better than the other day (in Missoula),” Flathead coach Jack Foster said. “Today was definitely a step in the right direction. We’ve got a ways to go yet.”

Both Flathead and Glacier return to the diamond on Tuesday, when they’ll face each other in a crosstown matchup at Glacier. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3 p.m., and the nightcap is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
