Mother Teresa'words still speak loudly for the unborn

The National Prayer Breakfast occurred this February. It’s an annual reminder that our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and an attendant moral code. In the history of this event there has been nothing comparable to Mother Teresa’s 1994 address when she very boldly proclaimed the sanctity of life.

Present that day were President and First Lady Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as Al and Tipper Gore. This 4-foot-something nun pulled no punches. She spoke “truth to power” — “Please don’t kill the child. I want the child. Give me the child. I’m willing to accept any child who would be aborted and to give that child to a married couple who will love the child and be loved by the child.”

Mother Teresa conversed with overwhelming moral authority. And this tiny saintly sister received a resounding standing ovation. But the Clintons and Gores just sat there stone-faced and in sullen silence. They never clapped once. They looked like petulant and pouty little children and were entirely dwarfed in the presence of a diminutive spiritual giant.

Most sadly a new abortion clinic has just opened in Whitefish. Just like Mother Teresa’s powerful prophetic voice, the words of Psalm 106:37 proclaim to us now as of old: “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false idols. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their children ...”

We no longer worship ancient idols, ones fashioned from iron and stone. We have more modern prototypes from which to chose — money, sex, power ... whatever the world serves up for our illicit consumption. And our “sons and daughters?” They’re sacrificed on the altars of indifference and inconvenience. Perhaps we should let God plan parenthood.
