Frances Dillon Foley, 89

Frances Dillon Foley, 89, passed away on April 14, 2018, with family by her side.

She was from St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from St. Catherine’s College.

In 1954 she married Eugene Foley and raised four children. Frannie was a beautiful woman with bright blue eyes; she was a talented artist and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her sensuous, hand-carved marble sculptures are in many private and public collections around the country including the City Hall of Wabasha, the Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis, Cretin Derham High School; St. Joseph’s in St. Paul and the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell.

She enjoyed hiking, gardening, cooking and curling.

Her husband was an advisor to Hubert Humphrey and served in the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations. Frannie enjoyed several private dinners at the Johnson White House and even got a personal tour from the president. In 1968 the family moved to New York and in 1986 she moved back to St. Paul into the Lowertown Lofts apartments for artists. In 1991 she moved to Somers on the shores of Flathead Lake to help raise her grandchildren. Frannie continued her art and was creating some of her most beautiful work into her mid-80s.

Frances was predeceased by her husband, three sisters and brother. She is survived by her children, Annie of Tisbury, Massachusetts; Bob and wife Jane of Somers; Margaret of Whitefish; Paul and wife Clare of Marion, Massachusetts; and her four grandchildren, Dillon, Conor, Abbie and Ellie Foley who all grew up in the Flathead Valley. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in St. Paul on June 16.
