Richard Clark 'Dick' Daniels, 88

Richard Clark “Dick” Daniels, 88, of Columbia Falls, died peacefully of natural causes at his home on April 16, 2018.

Mr. Daniels was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Superior, Montana, to Clark Henry “Happy” Daniels and Anna Belle Miles. He attended school in Superior and married Betty Ann Thompson on June 14, 1947. A son, Douglas Clark, was born in Superior in 1948 and a daughter, Lonna Lee, was born in Missoula in 1951.

Dick worked in the logging industry most of his life and followed work to Hot Springs in 1957 and then to Columbia Falls in 1961. He had worked for Royal Logging, Canyon Logging and Ureco as an equipment operator and mechanic, retiring in 1999. He was also retired from the local Operating Engineers Union.

Mr. Daniels was an active member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He donated time and money to many causes, but considered the giving of firewood to the needy as his favorite.

He was preceded in death by his parents Happy and Ann, sister Nita Darlene Olsen and wives Betty Thompson and Marge Cheff.

Survivors include son Douglas and wife Lynne Daniels of Anchorage, Alaska, and daughter Lonna and husband Ron Landwehr of Columbia Falls. Grandchildren surviving are Kelcey Daniels, Tana Daniels Bloss, Donald Landwehr and Heidi Landwehr Cunningham. Great-grandchildren include Leanne Harris, Marina and Kelcey Bloss, Riley Landwehr and Courtney Luepkes.

Memorial services are tentatively planned for Aug. 5 in Columbia Falls.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Richard’s Catholic Church.
