Glenn Windsor Rickenbacher, 93
It is with great sadness that the family of Glenn Windsor Rickenbacher announces his peaceful passing in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the age of 93. He was surrounded by loved ones and will be sorely missed.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Alene, as well as their blended family of 11 children they fondly referred to as “yours, mine and ours”: daughters Jill Winter Morgan, Anne Millett, Rebecca Haylett, Genevieve DuBois, Laura Guthrie, Heidi Kim Taasevigen, Ruth Rickenbacher, Tracy Soennichsen, and sons John Rickenbacher, Larry Henry and Kevin Henry, as well as 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Rae Hickman, and brother, Bruce John Rickenbacher.
Born on May 5, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, to Rufus and Ethel Rickenbacher, Glenn grew up as an avid football player, playing through high school. After graduating in 1943, he went on to serve in World War II as a gun corporal, receiving awards such as the American and EAME Campaign Medals. In 1946, he was honorably discharged.
Following his service, he attended Brown University where he ran varsity cross-country and was a varsity outdoor track athlete. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. After college, he worked as a real estate agent and then was an account manager at Del Monte Foods before retiring in Bigfork.
He was a skiing, hiking, camping and golfing enthusiast, preferring to spend his free time in the outdoors as much as possible. He always had a smile and the caring energy to brighten anyone’s day. When not hitting balls on the golf course or careening down a snowy mountain, you could often find him checking his stocks or enjoying a beer while watching football.
“Like you always said, Glenn, you take the high road and we’ll take the low road. Let’s meet somewhere on the other side, when our paths cross again. We love you.”
The celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
