Twins cruise by Cardinals 8-3 in state Legion play
MILES CITY — Coby Clark-Dickenson drove in four runs and Zach Veneman had a steady effort on the mound for the Glacier Twins, who opened Montana-Alberta Class A American Legion state baseball tournament play on Wednesday morning with an 8-3 victory over the Tri-County Cardinals.
Clark-Dickenson, Ryan Veneman, Terek Bistodeau, Forrest Kobelt and Dan Seymour had two hits each. The Twins (36-14) had 11 as a team.
Caleb Meehan, Kobelt (2), Ryan Veneman and Clark-Dickenson all belted doubles.
Seymour had the lone triple.
Glacier scored in every inning but the third and fourth. The Twins tallied four runs in the second for a 5-0 advantage.
Zach Veneman pitched 5 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Donnie Simms and Trenton Tyree finished up on the mound.
In other first-round action, it was Bitterroot Red Sox 10, Lewistown Redbirds 0; Gallatin Valley Outlaws 15, Laurel Dodgers 6; and Belgrade Bandits 8, Miles City Mavericks 4.
The Twins, winners of 16 straight, play the Gallatin Valley Outlaws today at 4 p.m.

AA State Tournament
The third-seed Billings Royals captured the state title by defeating the sixth-seed Lethbridge Elks 6-5 at Griffin Field Wednesday evening.
The Royals scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
The Royals and Elks played three times with the Royals winning twice. They met in opening-day play last Saturday with Billings winning 6-5.
On Tuesday, the Elks won 12-7, handing the Royals their first tournament loss.
The Elks won four straight before falling in the title game. They also beat the Helena Senators 8-4, Great Falls Chargers 10-2 and Billings Scarlets 19-7.
The Royals and Missoula Mavericks advance to the AA Regional Tournament in Missoula Aug. 8-12. The regional winner qualifies for the AA Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina, Aug. 17-21.
