Good luck to Twins in Regional battle
The Glacier Twins just keep grinding — and winning.
American Legion Baseball Class A regular season champs, district champs and now state champs — all while maintaining an impressive 22-game winning streak that began weeks ago. Next up, the boys from Whitefish and Columbia Falls will be traveling to Lewiston, Idaho, and aiming for one final trophy — Regional champs.
The success this summer hasn’t come without challenges, but Glacier keeps finding a way to win.
“We’ve had plenty of opportunities to fall apart,” Twins coach Scott Murray said, “but they never do. They never give up.”
Good luck at Regionals, Glacier, and congrats on all the success so far this season.
Bullock in his own battle
Another local franchise that is going on the road in search of a regional — and perhaps national — victory is none other than our Montana governor, Steve Bullock.
Bullock has been testing the waters of late for a presidential bid.
No doubt Bullock is the darkest of dark horses, but don’t count him out. Stranger things have happened. For instance, it was just 42 years ago when a little-known peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter surprised the pundits and the pols and wound up as the Democrat nominee who unseated incumbent president Gerald Ford. OK, Carter was also the governor of Georgia, but that and a handful of peanuts might get you admission to the circus — but usually not the White House! Then there is the odds-defying candidacy of Donald Trump — the non-politician who was given no shot at victory, yet who today still wears the mantle of the presidency.
Bullock has already been to Iowa, where the nation’s first votes will be cast in 2020, and now he’s announced plans to visit New Hampshire, home of the first presidential primary. Looks like he will be going up against a bunch of left-wing candidates such as Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders and maybe Elizabeth Warren. If so, the rural governor could look like an attractive alternative to Iowa farmers and New Hampshire moderates. He is also the perfect foil to Donald Trump — buttoned down where Trump is riled up, and dispassionately sober about the issues where the president is wildly unpredictable.
No one’s predicting it could happen — not yet — but it would sure be entertaining for the folks back in Montana, wouldn’t it?
