Senior scores late to nip Glacier
BILLINGS — Billings Senior scored with time running out to edge Glacier 27-26 on Friday night in the Class AA football opener for both schools at Daylis Stadium.
Glacier scored with 58 seconds remaining to up 26-21 on a 1-yard run by Preston Blain. Glacier went for two on the conversion, but the run failed.
Senior scored the game-winning touchdown on a 38-yard pass.
“Honestly, I’ve coached for a long time and I don’t know if I’ve ever been part of a loss (like this),” Glacier coach Grady Bennett said.
“I’m proud of the kids and their effort. We left a lot of points out there.”
Glacier failed to convert on two short field goal attempts and missed an extra point.
And …
“Dropped two touchdown passes,” Bennett said. “I felt like we left 30 points out there. That’s football.”
Scoring for Glacier were Travis Proulx on a 38-yard pass from quarterback Evan Todd, Danny Anderson on a 5-yard pass from Todd and Colin Bowden on a 20-yard pass from Drew Jackson.
Senior, two-time defending state champions, led 14-13 at the half and 21-20 after three quarters.
“What we learned tonight is that we can be a really good football team,” Bennett said.
“We had so many chances to win it, could have won it. We just have to focus on the good things.”
Glacier is back in action Friday at Great Falls C.M. Russell while Senior travels to Helena High.
