Flathead stayed perfect on the pitch Thursday evening, downing Glacier 4-1 in the first boys crosstown soccer match of the season at Legends Stadium.

Flathead (4-0 overall, 2-0 league) jumped on top 2-0 with back-to-back goals two-minutes apart by Colter Goss and AJ Apple.

Glacier scored at 19 minutes to get within one, but Flathead answered with goals by Eric Gardner and David Marburger for a 4-1 halftime lead.

“Nice job of putting the ball away when we had the chance to,” Flathead coach Zach Brenneman said. “One of the biggest moments of the game was Max Warnell saved a PK.”

That came early in the match.

Glacier outshot Flathead on goal 8-7.

“We had a couple go off the post, crossbar, down 4-1 at half,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said.

“We won the second half, made some nice adjustments. We felt really good with how we responded in the second half.”

Glacier (1-2, 0-1) is back in action Saturday at Missoula Big Sky. Flathead is off until Sept. 7 when it plays at Helena High.
