Steven Drent, 63

| December 26, 2018 2:00 AM

Steven Drent, 63, of Kalispell, passed away of complications during a surgery Wednesday, Dec. 19 in Kalispell.

He was born to Pieter and Therese Drent in Whitefish on June 27, 1955. Steve grew up the only boy with his four sisters Jane, Wilma, Marilyn and Renee.

Many men seek to be good fishermen. Few succeed as Steve Drent did. He not only caught fish but many great friendships as he explored the Flathead Valley he called home. He bonded with many over a shared love of fishing and hunting. He anchored with Kathy Lengstorf for a while and hauled in two children, Bryce (Tina) Provo and Benjamin (Hailey) Drent. He developed deep love and patience for his children and grandchildren. The minnows that jumped into his boat later were John, Jack, Charles, Elizabeth, and Benjamin from Bryce Provo, and Caleb and Cooper from Ben Drent. Near the end of his voyage, he landed great love in the relationship he found with Kari Mackin. She brought him joy and as they sailed into the sunset together the wind died too soon.

The memorial for Steve will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Herron Park.

We will carry his memory in our hearts and are comforted to know that he is with Someone who loves fishermen very much.

“Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.’” (John 21:10)

We can’t wait to go fishing with you again Steve.
