Man stabs himself after Evergreen traffic stop
A 24-year-old Kalispell man reportedly stabbed himself in the neck during a police negotiation in Evergreen Thursday morning.
The man was being pulled over for a traffic stop on U.S. 2 in Evergreen when a deputy found he was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant. When the deputy returned to the vehicle, the man reportedly had a large knife to his throat.
The deputy called for assistance and responding deputies blocked the vehicle in to contain the situation, according to a press release.
Law enforcement reportedly negotiated with the man for more than two hours. At about 11:30 a.m. the man stabbed himself in the neck. Police gained entry to the vehicle and got control of the knife, Sheriff Chuck Curry stated.
The man was transported to the Kalispell Regional Medical Center by Evergreen Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the sheriff, the man is under a psychiatric hold.
