Harkins, Glacier top Capital
Glacier recovered from a meager offensive showing in the first quarter to earn another Western AA conference boys basketball win on Saturday against Helena Capital at Glacier High School.
The Wolfpack managed only three points in the first quarter but stayed in the game thanks to a stout first half on the defensive end. Glacier took an 18-13 lead to the locker room.
Caden Harkins led the way offensively for the Wolfpack, scoring 16 points on four 3-pointers and a 4 of 4 mark from the foul line.
Drew Engellant added nine points for Glacier, which did not allow any Bruin to reach double figures.
The win moved Glacier to 2-0 in Western AA play after it knocked off Helena High on Friday night in the conference opener.

Flathead bounced back from a loss in its Western AA opener to take down Helena High at Flathead High School.
Tyler Johnson made 7 of 8 free-throw attempts on his way to a game-high 19 points. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Eric Seaman rebounded from a scoreless outing Friday night to drop 15 points on Saturday. Sam Elliott was the other double-digit scorer for the Braves, tallying 11.
Flathead fell behind after the first quarter but recovered to earn a comfortable win. The Braves outscored the Bengals by a combined 26-14 in the second and fourth quarters.

LIBBY — Shade Main poured in 27 points, including 19 in the second half and overtime, to lead Polson as it edged Libby in double overtime.
Main’s big day helped the Pirates overcome the feisty Loggers, who received 22 points from Ryggs Johnston and 16 from JJ Davis in the back-and-forth affair.
Connor Lanier added 12 points for Polson, while Weston Danley scored 11.
Keith Johnson was Libby’s only other double-digit scorer with 11.
Polson, which trailed by four at halftime after a disastrous second quarter, forced overtime by outscoring Libby 14-7 in the fourth.

FLORENCE — Bigfork scored 23 or more points in three of four quarters to wreck Florence.
The Vikings jumped out to a 24-6 lead after the first quarter and outscored their hosts in each period of the rout.
Beau Santistevan scored a game-high 26 points for Bigfork, which remained undefeated. Logan Gilliard added 19, while Clayton Reichenbach chipped in 12.
Marcus Zeiler scored 25 points in Florence’s losing effort.

EUREKA — Eureka limited Troy to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters to win a low-scoring matchup.
Eureka’s Colton Cooper was the game’s only double-digit individual scorer with 11 points.
The Lions took a 21-14 lead into halftime, but Troy roared back to tie the game by the end of the third quarter.
Eureka outscored the visitors 14-8 in the final period.

RONAN — Ronan built an early lead and held onto it through a wild second half to earn a non-conference win over St. Ignatius.
Anthony Camel, Dallas Durheim and Zeke Misa all recorded double-doubles to lead Ronan. Camel scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Durheim notched 12 and 11, respectively. Misa stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
The Chiefs led 32-25 at halftime. Both teams scored 24 points in the fourth.

HELENA — Glacier couldn’t overcome a slow start, falling to 0-2 in Western AA play with a double-digit loss to undefeated Helena Capital.
The Wolfpack fell behind 13-7 after the first quarter and trailed 22-14 at halftime.
Anna Schrade led Glacier in scoring for the second consecutive day, notching 13 points. Ellie Stevens and Kali Gulick each scored nine.
Sydney Sheridan paced Capital with 16.

FLORENCE — Bigfork outscored Florence 11-3 in overtime, with Rakiah Grende supplying 10 of those points for the Valkyries, to knock off previously undefeated Florence in a clash of Class B powers.
Grende’s explosion in overtime contributed to her 19-point performance, one that fell just short of Jaime Berg’s game-high 20 points.
The Valkyries, who trailed by four at the half, chipped away at the deficit throughout the third and fourth quarters to force the extra period.

Allie Coldwell turned in an admirable performance in Troy’s losing effort, scoring 31 points. Coldwell’s scoring accounted for more than 70 percent of the Trojans’ points.
Eureka led but just one at the half but pulled away when it held Troy to just four points in the third quarter.
