Flathead has three new courses to offer that will replace ones currently offered according to curriculum proposals approved by the Kalispell Public School Board of Trustees on Jan. 9.

Glacier High School is refreshing its theater curriculum in the language arts department for the next school year, according to a theater curriculum proposal that was also approved by trustees on Tuesday.

“Advanced theatre arts,” will be reintroduced to class offerings. In this year-long course, students will be tasked with designing the technical aspects of production and performance classes such as props, lights and sets.

“Improv” will replace “acting 2” and “acting 5.” Students will study improvisation in character work, advanced stage combat and movement, for example in addition to acting styles and philosophy. The semester-long course will end with an improv show.

“Advanced acting ensemble” is set to replace “Aating 4.” Students will improve their drama skills in this semester-long course and will produce and direct student performances.

“Acting and film production” is a year-long course that replaces “GTV.” The class combines journalism, marketing, acting and editing.
