Taylor Kenny Rea, 34
Taylor Kenny Rea was born April 14, 1983, at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish to Denny and Kathy Rea. He graduated from Whitefish High School in 2001 and completed a course of study in communications at Portland State University in 2009.
Taylor died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at his home in Missoula.
He loved skiing in the winter and spending summers on the lake with his grandparents, family and friends. Sports were also a big part of his life growing up and all through high school. A huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Taylor loved being able to attend games when he was able. Traveling was another big part of his life and he had many great adventures going to sporting events, exploring the United States and traveling overseas.
Taylor was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a “gentle giant” with a heart of gold. One of his biggest passions in life was music, and many will remember going to shows or watching Taylor DJ. He felt so much joy connecting with others through beats and song.
Gifted with many talents in the kitchen, Taylor loved to prepare food for family and friends. Not only did he cook for those he loved, but he also enjoyed cooking for the masses. Whether it was at “Over the Top,” the food truck he co-owned in Portland, or The Red Bird in Missoula, Taylor always found community and connection through the making and sharing of food.
Taylor will be remembered most for his generosity, kindness, and dedication to his family and friends. In the last several years of his life, he truly stepped into being the kind of man he wanted to be. He lived a life that truly mattered, helping others, staying humble and being thankful for all of the blessings in his life. A “Rea” of sunshine in all of the lives he touched, he would always be sure to remind people to “Have a grateful day.”
He is survived by his mother and father, grandmother Bonnie Kenny, aunt Judy Togiai, cousins John (Katie), Justin (Jessica) Togiai, and many extended family and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion Bus.
A memorial celebration will be held on July 21. Another announcement will be made closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Montana or Shepherd’s Hand Clinic.
