Whitefish Wrestling Club sets registration date for Friday
Registration for the Whitefish Wrestling Club will take place Friday in the Whitefish High School Gym/Event Center from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Club wrestling begins Feb. 12th and goes for six weeks ending March 24th. Cost for participation is $35 for those in grades K-5 and $50 for 6th-8th graders. The fee includes a T-shirt to keep and the use of club shoes and singlet. The additional cost for 6th-8th graders helps with travel expenses that will be associated with the junior high wrestling program.
Registration forms are available at school offices or at open mat every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7 p.m. in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School.
The club is open to all students K-8th grade. Scholarships are available for those that may need financial assistance.
Wrestlers are separated by age groups based on age at the beginning of the season and by weight.
The classifications are: peewee — kindergarten (regardless of age and younger); beginner — ages 6-8; novice — ages 9-10; middle — ages 11-12; and junior — ages 13-14.
The 6th-8th graders will practice in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School Monday-Thursday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. and participate in junior high competitions.
Middle and novice wrestlers, 5th grade and younger, will practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. in the WHS wrestling room. Beginner and peewee wrestlers practice Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. at the same location.
The WHS wrestling room is metal building on the South side of the high school track.
Those that choose to participate in the Montana Little Guy competitions will be entered in their appropriate age group. Those events are held on Saturdays with locations to be determined. Competitions are encouraged but not required for participation.
