WHITEFISH — Eureka and Polson left the mats at the Whitefish (Bulldogs) Duals on Friday with 2-0 marks.

Browning and Thompson Falls both finished up with 2-1 records, followed by Columbia Falls, 1-1, Glacier JV, 1-1, Libby, 1-2, Bigfork 0-2, and Whitefish, 0-3.

This marked the fourth year for the event and the nine-team field is the largest to date.

While Whitefish fell short in the win column, the Bulldogs had a couple of notable performances on the individual front.

Dean Kellogg, at 113 pounds, was 2-1 on the day — winning twice by pin and dropping a decision.

“He showed a little bit of grit,” Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle said.

“His first match was a tight match, a good win. It was back and forth.”

He pinned Kevin Maldonado of Columbia Falls in 2:42.

He lost to RJ Pierre of Polson 10-4, but finished by pinning Garrett Jones of Thompson Falls in 3:15.

“He was getting beat pretty good by the Polson kid,” Boyle said.

“He (Kellogg) reversed him (Pierre) at the end. (Kellogg) ran the guy out of gas. He just didn’t have enough time.”

Boyle said Kellogg was in charge in the Thompson Falls match.

“He stayed with it, didn’t give up,” he said.

“He caught the kid on his back and pinned him.”

Whitefish’s Jack Eisenbarth split his matches and added a forfeit, all at 145. He pinned Nathan Hader of Columbia Falls in 3:34 and was pinned by Polson’s Cameron Brown in 1:57.

The forfeit was versus Thompson Falls.

“He’s been wrestling really well for us,” Boyle said.

“A close match (with Hader). Jack was on his back at one point, but fought on. He gutted that one out.”

Polson defeated Browning 45-30 in a match that had 11 straight pins. Polson, ranked fifth in Class A, followed with a 63-6 win over Whitefish.

In a battle of top-ranked teams, Eureka, No. 1 in Class B, edged Columbia Falls, ranked 7th in Class A, 30-28.

Gunnar Smith (113), Kyle Durden (126), Chance Muller (138), Nathan Cargill (152), Jonathan Schmidt (160) and Garrett Graves (182) were winners for Eureka in that dual.

Hader, Austin Nelson (120), Brandon Thomas (132) and Kyler Koski (285) won matches for Columbia Falls versus Eureka while Ben Windauer (170) and Jakob Freeman (205) were forfeit winners.

Eureka also crushed Thompson Falls, 52-24.

Libby is ranked 10th in Class A.

This wrapped up regular-season action for all the Class A and B-C teams. Divisional action follows next weekend — Class A at Columbia Falls and Class B-C at Superior. The state tournament is Feb. 9-10 in Billings.

Eureka is the defending state B-C champion.
