| January 27, 2018 2:00 AM

Eugene Joseph Hermes was born near Haven, Kansas, on July 12, 1917, to John and Mary Hermes, the second of 11 children.

He died Jan. 21, 2018.

A devout Catholic, Eugene received his First Holy Communion in Garden City, Kansas, on Aug. 28, 1927, on the feast of St. Hermes.

On April 28, 1943, he married the love of his life, Nona Lois Becker, who preceded him in death in April 1993.

Together they raised their seven children who survive him, David, Catherine, Kenneth, Barbara, Mary, Steven and Timothy (John).

These seven children blessed Eugene and Nona’s lives with 38 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 11 great-

great-grandchildren to date. Also surviving him are sister Lucilla Herman, and brother Norbert Hermes.

Eugene’s life was his family. He worked hard farming and doing construction work. He was a very loving father and grandfather.

Many of his family were fortunate enough to share in his 100th birthday celebration in July 2017 in Kalispell.

He will be dearly missed.
