Glacier Nordic events planned this week
Glacier Nordic Center is hosting two community cross-country skiing events.
Ski for free under the full moon Wednesday, Jan. 31, on the Whitefish Lake Golf Course groomed track. Free skiing starts at 3 p.m. Half-day ski rentals will be available at the Glacier Nordic Shop. The shop will stay open until 9 p.m. Rentals may be returned the following day by noon.
The course features 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles) of lighted track. Under the light of the full moon, skiers will be able to ski the full 12K (about 7.5 miles) of the course. Maps are available at the ski shop.
The Glacier Nordic Club is holding its Winter Carnival weekend Classic ski race Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Glacier Nordic Center. There will be 1K, 4K and 12 K races starting at 9 a.m.
Winter Carnival-themed or traditional Nordic ski costumes are encouraged. This year’s carnival theme is “Fly like an eagle.”
Entry fees are free for the 1K. The 4K is $10 and the 12K is $15.
The event supports the Glacier Nordic Ski Team that has more than 225 youth in its programs.
