Lakers AA hang on to trip Mavs AA

Dawson Smith, 3 for 4, drove in two runs, Logan Siblerud, 1 for 2, had two RBIs and Sam Elliott went six innings on the mound to get the win as the Kalispell Lakers AA held on to beat the Missoula Mavs AA 6-5 on Tuesday evening at Griffin Field in American Legion baseball play.

Kalispell (34-13 overall, 12-6 league) led 4-0 after three inning and 6-0 after four.

Missoula pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the fifth and scored three times in the seventh to fall a run short.

Taylor Morton, 2 for 4, scored once for Kalispell.

The Lakers have four league games left in the regular season — a doubleheader on Thursday at the Billings Scarlets AA and a home doubleheader on Sunday versus the Butte Miners AA.

Kalispell hosts the AA state tournament, which begins July 28th.

The Glacier Twins A used 18 hits to tally 15 runs in a wild 15-12 victory over the Missoula Mavs A in the opening game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Jack Schwaiger had a monster game with a double, home run (third inning) and four RBIs for the Twins.

Tom Hellwig, 4-5, was just as impressive. He also doubled (seventh inning) and homered (third) and drove in two runs.

Matt Morrison, 3 for 5, had three RBIs and Ryan Veneman, 3 for 4, drove in two runs for the victors.

Glacier scored 10 runs in the third inning.

The Twins stayed on the offensive in Game 2, ripping 16 hits in a 9-4 victory.

Schwaiger, 3 for 4, Hellwig, 3 for 4, and Veneman, 3 for 4, had another field day at the plate.

Hellwig and Coby Clark-Dickenson had two RBIs each. They also had the team’s two extra base hits — Hellwig doubled and Clark-Dickenson tripled.

The Twins host the Bitterroot Red Sox A on Thursday for a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
