Streaking Twins A beat Lakers A in season finale

WHITEFISH — The Glacier Twins A wrapped up regular-season play by topping the Kalispell Lakers A at Memorial Field.

The Saturday American Legion baseball victory was the 11th straight for the Twins and the 17th straight in conference play. Glacier (29-15 overall, 17-3 league) won the West A District title for the first time since switching to Class A in 2013.

The Twins went 3-1 versus the Lakers A this season.

Glacier used a late push to drop the Lakers.

Trailing 4-2, the Twins tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth, scored once in the sixth and eighth and pushed five runs across the plate in the seventh.

Glacier had eight players get hits. Ryan Veneman, Coby Clark-Dickenson, Jack Schwaiger, Tom Hellwig and Dan Seymour had two each.

Bistodeau drove in two runs.

Hellwig doubled.

The Lakers finished with eight hits. Payton Davisson, 3 for 4, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs.

Jayden Dillon went 2 for 2.

Forrest Kobelt pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for the Twins.

Matt Morrison went the next 3 1/3 to get the win.

Kobelt allowed seven hits, struck out seven and walked three batters.

Morrison allowed no hits, struck out three and walked three.

“Forrest pitched well, kept them off-balance,”Glacier coach Scott Murray said of his starter.

“His curveball was working really well and he was locating his fastballs.”

Up next for the Twins and Lakers is the West District Tournament, which begins Thursday in Hamilton. State play follows in Miles City Aug. 2-5.

LIBBY — The Libby Loggers concluded regular-season play Friday night with a doubleheader split with the Missoula Mavs.

Libby escaped with a hard-fought win in the opener by scoring a run in the bottom of the 10th.

Libby outhit Missoula 13-3. Shayne Walker, C. Williams and Moxley Roesler-Bagalke had two hits each.

Jeff Offenbecher, Williams and Tim Carvey had doubles for Libby.

Roesler-Bagalke pitched the final three innings to claim the win.

Missoula did the bulk of its scoring in two innings — a three-run fourth and a four-run fifth — to win Game 2.

Six different Loggers accounted for the team’s seven hits. Trey Thompson led the way, going 2 for 2.

Carvey doubled for the lone extra base hit in that outing.

Up next for both teams is the West District Tournament in Hamilton, which starts Thursday. State play follows in Miles City Aug. 2-5.
