Legion Baseball Twins start state A play with Tri-County
The Glacier Twins American Legion baseball team will have journeyed from one of end of Montana to the other in search of postseason success in the span on two weeks.
Last week in Hamilton, the Twins completed four days of play — Thursday through Sunday — at the West A District Tournament by going 4-0 en route to the claiming the championship with a 15-8 victory over the Bitterroot Red Sox. The final pitted the top-seed Twins against second-seed Red Sox.
Now, it’s off to the other side of Montana for the Montana-Alberta Class A State Tournament, which begins today in Miles City.
The Twins (35-14) will start state play with a 10 a.m. test versus the Tri-County Cardinals. That winner will play Thursday at 4 p.m. and face the Laurel Dodgers/Gallatin Valley Outlaws winner, who play today at 4 p.m. The tournament runs through Sunday.
The state winner qualifies for the Class A Regional Tournament in Lewistown Aug. 8-13.
The Twins breezed through district play, winning its other three outings 4-0, 9-0 and 13-3.
Glacier has won 15 straight.
The Red Sox also advanced to state in Miles City as the second seed from West A.
The Kalispell Lakers and Red Sox represented West A last year at state.
The Red Sox won West A District titles in 2017 and 2016.
Tri-County finished second at the Northern A District on Sunday, losing 9-8 to the Lewistown Redbirds.
In the East A District final on Sunday, Laurel (45-15) beat Glendive 6-1, while in South A, the Belgrade Bandits (50-11) edged the Gallatin Valley Outlaws (37-24) 1-0.
