The Whitefish City Council approved an application for a subdivision by British Columbia-based Reto Barrington of 93 LLC. The 26-lot subdivision covers 1735, 1765, 1785, 1825, 1875, 1895 and 1975 U.S. 93 W. The area is across the highway from the Whitefish Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

If subdivided, the developer plans to build 22 single-family homes and 30 condominiums. The properties currently hold a couple of single-family homes and some outbuildings, which would be removed to make room for the new ones if approved. One of the homes is owned by Barrington, the applicant.

Trail systems included in the development plans would be open to the public, Barrington said at Monday night’s meeting.

The planning board staff recommended approval of the measure at their meeting on March 5.

The site had a different preliminary plan that council approved back in 2007 that was then amended in 2010 to look similar to the way it does now. Since then, Barrington was granted two extensions, but the past approval recently expired.

Mayor John Muhlfeld, who was on council when the project was passed the first time, said it was a good project that respected all the city’s future plans both then and now.

“I’m personally very comfortable seeing this project move forward as planned,” Muhlfeld said.

The resolution passed unanimously.
