J.P. Awalt Jr., 81

J.P. Awalt Jr. was born Sept. 10, 1936, in Dallas to Jacob Posey Awalt and Marvelle Burton Awalt, and died peacefully at his home in Bigfork on May 20, 2018.

He attended Highland Park Schools, Texas Military Institute and the University of Texas where he was a member of Sigma Chi.

After spending his career in the family wholesale furniture business in Dallas, he retired to Bigfork where he continued to enjoy the outdoor life of hunting, fishing, boating and competitive shooting. He loved the beautiful Northwest countryside.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; his sister, Marvelle Awalt Muntzel, formerly of Dallas; and his nephew, James Phillips, formerly of Houston.

He is survived by his sisters, Grace Awalt Phillips and husband Carroll Phillips of Houston, and Jean Awalt Saunders of Austin, Texas. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Marvelle Ditto, Carol Ann Phillips, Allyson Saunders, Mark and Kathy Muntzel, John and Stephanie Phillips, and Clay Saunders. He is also survived by six great-nieces and -nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in Dallas at a later date.
