Barbara 'Barb' Fisher Miller, 72

Barbara “Barb” Fisher Miller, 72, passed peacefully away on Jan. 29, 2018, in her Edenton, North Carolina, condominium.

Barb was born on Oct. 17, 1945, in St. Louis. After living in five different cities as a child, she landed in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from Mary Washington College in 1967, then

settled back in Richmond to start and raise her family and have a very successful 25-plus year career with Philip Morris.

Barb had two sons from her first marriage, Charles W. “Chip” Shewbridge IV, and Michael P. Shewbridge. After her first marriage, she married Douglas “Doug” Banks Miller in 1981. They

lived most of their 35 years together in Richmond, raising Chip and Michael in the house Doug built on a lake.

In 2007 they moved to Lakeside where they spent the final years of their lives enjoying the beautiful outdoor lifestyle of Montana.

Barb was a strong, independent woman with an avid love for adventure, the outdoors and anything involving nature. She was known for strong project management and organizational

skills, in her career and personal life.

She loved fishing, gardening, snow skiing, and the casual afternoon sitting on a beach, especially at her home on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. Barb was a passionate craftsperson, expressed through her sewing and embroidery.

After moving to Montana, Barb quickly got involved with the community. She and a group of friends opened “Artrageous” in Lakeside, featuring work from local artists as well as Barb’s beautiful

embroidery. Barb also volunteered on the Lakeside Community Council and was a member of the Lakeside Community Club.

She made deep connections with her wit, intelligence, giving heart and beautiful smile.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert P. Fisher and Dorothy A. Fisher, and by her husband, Douglas B. Miller.

She is survived by her brother, Robert A. Fisher, and his family; her

two sons, Charles “Chip” W. Shewbridge IV, and Michael P. Shewbridge, and her two grandsons, in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

A celebration of life will be held for Barb from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, upstairs at the Tamarack Brew Pub in Lakeside.
