Kathy was born on July 11, 1950, in Redding, California, the seventh of 10 children to Effie Inez (Baker) and William Riley Young. As a young girl she enjoyed gymnastics, picking blackberries, taking care of the farm animals and playing with her many siblings.
She was educated at various schools in the mountains near Redding, at times living in logging camps near where her father worked as a logger. She attended Shasta High School and then for her senior year, moved to Dixon, Illinois to live with her oldest sister, and graduated from Dixon High School.
While in Dixon, she met William (Bill) Wartick, who was also living with his oldest sister at the time. They were married on July 12, 1969, in Eureka and together had a daughter, Lisa.
Kathy and Bill made their home in Eureka for many years, raising their daughter there and building a beautiful house out in the country, nestled in the trees on Sinclair Creek Road. Kathy will be remembered for her friendliness and cheerfulness while working as a waitress at Lynn’s Café and Montana Market while living in Eureka.
After raising their daughter and seeing her through college, Kathy and Bill moved to Kalispell.
Kathy worked at Semitool, as well as Kalispell Regional Hospital in foodservice until retirement. She attended Flathead Valley Community College, earning an associates degree in administrative assistant.
Kathy talents were many, from toll painting on wood to refinishing antiques, and she was often complimented on her knack for interior decorating and excellent pie making. She had a tremendous green thumb with numerous houseplants, beautiful outdoor flowers and vegetable gardens flourishing under her loving care.
Kathy had two grandsons that she loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. They will miss the fun they had with her while dyeing Easter eggs and decorating sugar cookie cutouts at Christmas.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Bill, of almost 49 years; her daughter, Lisa (Scott) Rubino of Great Falls; grandsons, Nathan and Tanner Rubino of Great Falls; sister Bette (Paul) Hunter of Redding, California; brother John (Patricia) Young of Hollister, California; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stan, Willie, Robert and George; and sisters, Jean, Shirley and Anita.
A celebration of her life will be held this summer.
