Outdoor film fests to stop in Whitefish

| March 15, 2018 9:44 AM

Two outdoor film festivals will make stops in the Flathead Valley this month; the first being the Fly Fishing Film Tour, which will host a screening on March 16, followed by the Mountainfilm on Tour which will air films March 22. Both tours will host their presentations in Whitefish at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

The Fly Fishing Film Tour features a collection of documentary films from the sport’s top filmmakers. Each segment is an excerpt from each filmmaker’s newest project. Traveling through the U.S. and Canada each year, the Fly Fishing Film Tour features incredible never-seen footage from waterways worldwide. With a party atmosphere and audience giveaways, each screening is a celebration of the sport.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show on March 16 at the O’Shaughnessy Center. Tickets are $10 at Lary’s Fly and Supply in uptown Columbia Falls or $15 online and at the door. For more information, please contact Hilary Hutcheson at hilary@larysflyandsupply.com or call 897-3357

On March 22, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation will be hosting the Mountainfilm on Tour, bringing a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and incredibly inspiring documentary films to three cities in Montana, including Whitefish.

Curated from the films shown at the Mountainfilm festival held every year in Telluride, Colorado, the diverse selection highlights adventure, an indomitable spirit, and a responsibility for our environment and wild places.

All the proceeds will help bring over 350 volunteers into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex in 2018 as they work to keep trails open, manage invasive weeds, protect wildlife habitat, and offer wilderness experiences with the power to change lives and instill a land ethic.

Doors open at 6 p.m. on March 22 and films will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available online at www.bmwf.org/events. One can also purchase tickets in Kalispell at Rocky Mountain Outfitter, and in Whitefish at Sportsman Ski Haus.

In addition to the independent films, guests can enjoy beer from the Front Brewing, snacks, and win amazing raffle prizes including passes for the Red Ants Pants Music Festival, jewelry, outdoor gear, Bedrock Sandals, jewelry and more.
