Bigfork Players mix golf and comedy

This weekend the Bigfork Community Players present Ken Ludwig’s comedy “The Fox on the Fairway” a farcical look at life and love through the lens of a game of golf.

The Quail Valley and Crouching Squirrel country clubs are about to compete in their annual Inter-Club Golf Championship. It’s a really big deal. And this year, rival club directors Henry Bingham and Dickie Bell have really outdone themselves with what they’ve put on the line.

Henry, in a fit of hubris, has wagered his wife Muriel’s antique shop without her knowledge. Dickie, Muriel’s ex-boyfriend, wants to level it and build a shopping center. Muriel, we learn, has much to be concerned about, not the least of which is Henry’s philandering with Dickie’s ex-wife, Pamela. And Justin’s game is off because Louise has lost her ring less than two hours into their engagement.

With high stakes and a cast of characters governed more by ego and hormones than by strategy and reason, the players chip from trap to trap in one hilarious round. And in a game that depends on a good lie, this farce has plenty of them.

Meghan Sistok makes her directing debut with this comedy.

“I’ve acted in about half a dozen plays with the Players,” she said, “and it’s a pretty exciting experience to see a play come together from the other side of the stage.”

“The Fox on the Fairway” will continue this weekend at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. The players will also perform a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

General seating tickets are available at Bigfork Drug, the Pocketstone Cafe, the Kalispell Grand Hotel and at the door. Golfers and visitors will receive two tickets for the price of one by showing their season golf pass or local hotel room key at the door.
