Glacier students inducted into French, Spanish honor societies

Thirty-one Glacier High School students were recently inducted into the national French and Spanish honor societies.

Students inducted into the national French Honor Society are: Emma Baumann, Elijah Boyd, Ashley Chapman, Samantha Drucker, Olivia Kalvig, Evan Kohler, Brooklyn Lamers, Dylan Leese, Whitney Levanen, Julissa Maldonado, Gabriella Paulson, Taylor Powell, Shawn Siler, Katelyn Smigaj, Lauren Stratton, Olivia Whitfield, Marie Wilcox and Sidney Zimmerman.

Students inducted into the national Spanish Honor Society include: Paulina Carbajal-Jepsen, Kaitlyn Carter, Ashlyn Cleveland, Rebecca Cross, Alex Durado, Allison Eastman, Jasmine Gruber, Garrett Hill, Ryan Kelly, Julissa Maldonado, Hallie Massey, Megan Rediger and Donald Simms.

Eligible students are in at least their third year of foreign language study, have an “A” average in their current language class, have a 3.5 or higher cumulative average in previous language classes and have a 3.0 or higher overall grade-point average during the semester of induction.

Twenty-two seniors were recognized for achieving the school’s International Language Academy distinction. This distinction goes to students who complete courses focused in international languages. These students are: Annie Hill, Garrett Hill, Robert Hurly, Natasha Johnson, Isabelle Lyon, Jenna McCrorie, Meredith Miele, Brooke Mills, Brigham Pitts, Harrison Rennie, Abigail Roston, Raphael Russell Jr., Anna Schrade, Jamison Seymour, Logan Smith, Isabelle Thomas, Kristen Toren, Elizabeth Tripp, Emma Trunkle, Emmett Van Allen, Lynette Vogel and Delaney Wilson.

West Valley School teacher Doug Anthony was selected by students to receive the Amici Linguarum “friend of languages” award for showing exemplary support of international language learning, teaching and culture in the Flathead Valley.

Anthony was chosen for inspiring students to learn languages and become global citizens by exploring countries and cultures.
