Stillwater Christian School presents “The Scarlett Letter”

Stillwater Christian School presents a time-tested drama of sin, shame and hope with Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “ The Scarlet Letter.”

The production will be shown at 7 p.m. on May 11 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 12 in the Flathead Valley Community College’s Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens and are available at Stillwater Christian School’s front office, Photo Video Plus in Kalispell and at the door.

“The Scarlet Letter”, adapted for the stage by Halsted Welles, tells the story of a shamed mother and child, a self-loathing pastor, a bitter husband and an unforgiving town. The audience is invited to take a deep look within while the characters grapple with the evil in their own lives and how it impacts the community around them.

“This is a heavy drama that demands a lot from the actors, technicians and audience alike. The story uncovers the lingering guilt, shame, anger, jealousy and rage underlying a series of secret misdeeds and poses the question: will the truth set them free?” said director, Ryan Motley. “Although the content is weighty, exceptional literature that requires us to take inventory of our souls is a worthy endeavor, especially in a time when our culture invites us to simply anesthetize ourselves from the sorrow, pain and evil around and within.”

This adaptation is intended for more mature audiences as it deals with very weighty themes. All in the community are invited to join the exploration of one of the most famous and enduring pieces of American literature.
