Glacier rules Northern AA Divisional tennis
GREAT FALLS — Glacier captured team, individual and doubles titles on the final day of the Northern AA Divisional tennis tournament on Friday.
The Glacier boys won their eighth straight divisional championship, led by singles champion Rory Smith and doubles champions Tyler Keller and Kykle Buckingham.
The Glacier boys also added a second-place finish in doubles with Logan Hill and Drew Engellant and a third place with Morgan Cordell and Hunter Watterud.
Those high placings gave Glacier at 51-point team score.
Great Falls High, 25, was a distant second with Great Falls C.M. Russell, 20, third and Flathead, 14, fourth.
In girls play, Maria Frampton won the singles title by stopping defending champion Mackenzie George of C.M. Russell.
In doubles, Glacier’s McKenna Johnson and Maggie Rudbach finished second.
CMR took team honors on the girls side with a 45 total. Glacier, 33, was second, followed by Great Falls High, 24, and Flathead, 10.
The Glacier girls were defending divisional champions.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles advance to state tournament play, which begins Thursday in Kalispell on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College.
Flathead, which had no state qualifiers a year ago, will have one this time. Ethan Hawkins finished fourth in singles.
