Shakespeare and 'Jersey Shore' collide on high school stage

| May 16, 2018 5:30 PM

Mischief and magic collided with mini-dresses, fake-tans and muscles in “Midsummer/Jersey” presented by the Wolfpack Theatre Company May 21, 23 and 24 at 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.

Admission for this production is $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens.

Tickets are available at the GHS Main Office, Photo Video Plus and, if still available, at the door.

“‘Midsummer/Jersey’ is quite simply a re-telling of Shakespeare’s play ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ set in modern-day New Jersey with a cast that comes from MTV’s infamous reality show “Jersey Shore.”

“It will be a fun evening of low brow comedy melded with high brow culture,” said co-director, Chris Adamcyk. “Fans of both Shakespeare & pop culture will find something for them and we think you’ll find that this re-telling is quite faithful to the original ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream.’”

This new interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy follows four young lovers, a lively crew of fairies and the quirky staff of a local beauty salon as they play in the sea, sand and, of course, on the boardwalk of the Jersey shore one midsummer night.

The night takes an enchanting turn when Oberon and the impish fairy, Puck, arrive on the scene armed with a desire for mischief-making and a powerful love potion. With several weddings and the acting careers of six local beauticians hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk, backed by pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.

“The story uses modern language with occasional lapses into Shakespearean verse — it’s easy to follow, laugh out loud funny, with high energy pacing,” said Adamcyk.

With a vibrant and colorful cast of characters, an imaginative set recreating a fun-loving, summer beach setting and a pop culture soundtrack, the audience will be transported to a familiar but magical place to examine the timeless test of true love.
