Hill tapped as next Glacier principal

Micah Hill will be recommended as the new principal of Glacier High School.

Pending board approval, Hill will move up from his current position as assistant principal at the high school, a role he has served in for 11 years on July 1.

He was one of three finalists interviewed for the position Wednesday. Other candidates were Ryan Rettig, principal at Washington Elementary in Washington and Cody Reutzel, assistant principal at Stansbury High School in Utah.

Kalispell Public Schools Superintendent Mark Flatau said Hill’s proven leadership and dedication to education made him the clear choice for this position.

“There was strong and clear support across all components of the interview process for Micah Hill,” Flatau said.

The position became available following current Principal Callie Langohr’s promotion to assistant superintendent of Kalispell Public Schools.

Hill started his career in education teaching English in Colstrip High School in the late ’90s. He went on to teach at Bigfork High School for three years before joining Kalispell Public Schools in 2001 as an English teacher at Flathead High School. Hill received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English education from Montana State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Montana.

“First of all, I’m honored that I was selected. One of the things I hope came out through the [interviewing] process is that I’m very passionate about Glacier High School and the Glacier High School community,” Hill said.

Hill’s first goal is to make the leadership transition as smooth as possible.

“I know I have big shoes to fill, and I am honored to be chosen to carry on the traditions and level of excellence that Callie has created,” Hill said, adding that he will continue supporting the vision of being one of the top high schools in the country.

Hill also intends to spend the year talking with staff and working to address any concerns.
