With Memorial Day weekend about to kick off, visitors to Glacier National Park will be able to go to the Avalanche Creek parking area.

Up until Thursday, Going-to-the-Sun Road was open to the Lake McDonald Lodge from the west entrance and to Rising Sun from the St. Mary’s entrance.

The road status page for the most current conditions can be found at www.nps.gov/glac/index.htm.

West-side plow crews are plowing on the Sun Road beyond Rim Rock just below Logan Pass. The east-side crews planned to continue plowing at Siyeh on Thursday.

The crews will not be working today, over the weekend or on Memorial Day.

Hiker and biker access on the west side is to Packers Roost when crews are working.

There is currently no hiker or biker access on the east side past the vehicle closure at Rising Sun due to wildlife management.

A weekend shuttle service for hikers and bikers operates between the Apgar Visitor Center and Avalanche Creek.

Shuttles will operate between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and are equipped with a bike trailer to transport bicycles.

The Quarter Circle Bridge Road is currently closed due to flooding. There are currently no hiker or biker restrictions, though visitors need to use care crossing standing or flowing water.

There are a number of other park roads open.

According to the Park Service, Camas, Chief Mountain, Cut Bank, Many Glacier and Two Medicine roads are open.

The Inside North Fork Road is currently closed at Logging Creek Ranger Station and Fish Creek due to the weather. The Kintla Road is closed at the Bowman Lake Road junction due to flooding. The Road south of Polebridge is closed between Logging Creek and Camas Creek.

In addition, the Apgar Visitor Center is open daily. Ranger-led activities will resume in June. The Apgar Campground is also open. The Many Glacier and Two Medicine roads are open but both campgrounds there remain closed due to snow. The road to Bowman Lake is open. The Bowman Lake Campground is open in primitive status.
