Jarold Harry Petersen, 77

| May 31, 2018 2:00 AM

Jarold Harry Petersen, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, “was called home” on May 24, 2018, at the age of 77.

Jarold was born in Sidney, Montana, on Aug. 9,1940, to Otis and Elberta (Waggoner) Petersen. He attended school in Sidney where he graduated from high school and entered into the Army.

He met Mary Flegler and they were married in Billings on May 8, 1965. He retired from the BNSF Railroad 30 years later.

We lived in Billings, Joliet and Kalispell, retiring to Cedar Park, Texas, (north of Austin).

Jarold and Mary were blessed with two sons, Dean and Craig.

Jarold loved to hunt, camp and coach baseball and basketball. Later on, he enjoyed golfing and square dancing. We delivered Meals-On-Wheels together for the past eight years. He sat on the Joliet School board, was the secretary for the United Transportation Union, and was a member of the Lions.

Jarold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene; sister-in-law, Vonda; nephew, Baby Paul Petersen; father-in-law, Jake Flegler; brother-in-law, Richard Flegler; sister-in-law, Lois McConnell; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jarold is survived by his wife, Mary, of 53 years; sons, Dean (Margie) Petersen of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Craig (Heather) Petersen of Cedar Park; grandchildren, William (Donna) Johnson, Sean (Bethany) Petersen, Jarold Petersen, Ashley Petersen and Andrew Petersen; four great-grandchildren; sister, Joy Lee (Wayne) Ericksen, of Carrollton, Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Petersen, of Casper, Wyoming; mother-in-law, Violet Flegler; and in-laws, Gary and Janice (Flegler) Koch, and Steve and Sharon (Flegler) Ketterling, all of Billings, and John (Jill) Flegler of DeSoto, Kansas. He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends too numerous to mention.

His strong spirit, kindness and sense of family will be missed by all who knew him. Jarold loved nothing better then to support his boys and grandchildren in their games and activities. We all loved him dearly and words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Hill Country Bible Church Leander, 11880 Old 2243 W, Suite 600, Leander, TX 78613. You are invited to a reception following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
