Halloween power outage no trick
It may have seemed like a Halloween prank, but it was no trick that 13,000 members of Flathead Electric Cooperative were left in the dark temporarily on that spookiest of days.
A power outage shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday was blamed on a problem with a Bonneville Power Administration transmission line in the Columbia Heights area. That transmission line feeds nine of Flathead Electric’s substations, which impact distribution lines throughout the Canyon area down through Kalispell and the east side of the Flathead Valley, Co-op spokesperson Wendy Ostrom Price said.
Crews worked quickly to re-energize Flathead Electric’s distribution lines as quickly as possible, she said. In the Kalispell area power was restored in about 10 minutes.
The Kalispell Police Department investigated an incident in which the caller said her car was vandalized while in a store parking lot. She believed it occurred because she had a Trump sticker on her car. The vandalism involved someone writing a profane message on the rear window of her car.
A man was seen dancing in the middle of U.S. 2 near the bypass. A passerby thought he needed help, but the man said he was just dancing the night away.
A woman who walked into the post office said a man who had just left started chasing her through the building before she got into her car. When an officer spoke to the man, he said he didn’t chase her, but he understood how she may have thought that. When the officer spoke to the woman, she didn’t wish to pursue the matter.
An unlocked vehicle made for easy entry for someone who stole the driver’s registration, insurance card and other personal information.
A delivery man reported a man tried to get into the front door of a business. The caller said the man seemed to be under the influence. When an officer spoke to the man, he said he believed it was open.
A stylishly attired German shepherd wearing a red vest was seen cavorting near the alley next to a field.
A woman said a man knocked on her door and when she opened it, she saw him drive away. She said he then returned, stopped the truck, got out and walked toward her. She said she was in her pajamas, so she went inside to get her coat and when she came back, he had left. She wanted the call logged because she had been stalked in the past.
Despite the concerns of a store manager who was set to fire an employee who reportedly carried a large knife, everything went well.
A caller reported a physical altercation between a man and a woman that left her battered. The caller said the man made a comment about the woman being unfaithful.
A neighborhood dog has been doing its business in a caller’s yard. He also said that when he walks his dogs, the at-large canine approaches his animals in an aggressive manner. The dog was described as a black Lab that wore a black bandana. The man said he spoke to the apartment manager about it but nothing has been done.
When a Columbia Falls Police officer checked an idling vehicle, he determined a man in the passenger seat wasn’t dead, just sleeping.
An employee in a dental office wanted a woman to be removed because of the way she acted.
A very relaxed black bear was seen lounging in a man’s yard on Colorado Ave. in Whitefish. The caller said it may be injured because it wasn’t doing anything, but it soon got up and left.
