HELENA — Helena High defeated Glacier 21-7 on Friday night in Class AA quarterfinal play of the football playoffs at Vigilante Stadium.

The win advances Helena High (9-2) to semifinal action next Friday at Billings West (10-1).

West beat Butte in another quarterfinal contest 45-20.

Helena High and Glacier met during the regular season on Sept. 14 at Legends Stadium with the Wolfpack rolling to a 48-14 victory. Windy conditions and turnovers limited the scoring in the rematch.

Helena High, a semifinalist a year ago, failed to score on three trips inside the Glacier 5-yard line.

Glacier (5-6) had a 90-yard touchdown run by Preston Blain called back because of a penalty late in the second quarter, that would have tied it at 14-all at the half.

The he had a 15-yard touchdown run called back by penalty in the third quarter. That would have also tied it.

“Credit Helena, especially offensively, they controlled the ball and the clock,” Glacier coach Grady Bennett said. “I think we only ran 30 plays. They kept our offense off the field. Those two touchdowns (called back) hurt. That was hard to overcome.

“Proud of the kids, they fought hard to the very end,” Bennett added.
