Grass was greener on other side for elusive calf

A woman called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report a calf eating grass in a ditch outside the fence. She said she saw a farmer in the field, but didn’t check to see if it belonged to him. When an officer investigated, there was no sign of a calf outside the fence.

A newcomer said there were three horses that hadn’t been fed for several days. He wished to remain anonymous to his neighbors because he was new to the area and feared retaliation. An officer looked into the complaint and determined that five horses appeared to be healthy, but that the water trough was frozen. The officer did post a door notice asking the horses’ owner to call the department.

A caller said a dog was tied to a motorhome near the river and couldn’t get protection from the weather. When a deputy checked, neither the motorhome nor the dog were anywhere to be found.

Several people reported a small cat was stuck up a power pole across from a horse ranch. The caller said the cat had been there for several hours.

A person reported an older Mercedes with Montana plates was parked at the condo where he worked. He said the keys were in the car and one window was partially rolled down. He thought the vehicle didn’t look like it belonged there. A check by an officer determined the vehicle wasn’t stolen.

A caller who reported the theft of jewelry from her home said she believed someone has a key to her home because items continue to come up missing.

A woman who tried to merge into another lane had a road rage incident with a man driving a white Ford F150 pickup truck in the Evergreen area. She said he punched his window and broke the mirror when he struck it. She also said he threatened to shoot and kill her. She described him as being an older man, having a long beard and wearing a long, brown coat.

A woman said while she and her husband were in Missoula, their daughter and a friend of hers took their ATV and wrecked it. She wanted to know the legalities of the situation.

Someone reported a severely injured dog walking on Foy’s Canyon Road. Upon further review, the dog wasn’t injured. It had a prior hip injury and was old. The dog was returned to his home.

A 16-year-old boy was admonished for making a false report after he said there was no heat in the camper where he and his 13-year-old brother lived. He said when he told his mother there was no heat, she ignored him. When an officer checked the boys’ claim, it was found to be false. He was also scolded for not helping his mother.

The pilot of a plane called Glacier Park International Airport about someone “hitting” them with a green laser light. The caller said he knew there wasn’t much that could be done, but wanted to alert the authorities.

A man called the Columbia Falls Police Department after his brother took his car without his permission. He was going to call the police to have the vehicle towed from where it was parked in the alley. When an officer spoke to the other brother, he said his brother did give him permission to drive the vehicle, which his girlfriend confirmed.

A man called to ask if his stolen binoculars had been recovered from the juveniles who were involved in a crime spree a few weeks ago. He was told they hadn’t been recovered, but he should get the serial numbers and a value and contact the office to report it. An officer said he should return the vehicle to his brother and he agreed.
