David Juroe, 91

Dr. David Juroe, 91, of Bigfork, passed away Sept. 28, 2018.

Dr. David Juroe was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Herman and Esther (McClintock) Juroe. David graduated from college at Houghton College in Houghton, New York. His college studies were interrupted by military service, and for more than 24 months he served in the occupation Army in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division. During his junior year at college, he traveled for seven months with a gospel team known as the Royalaires Quartet. This group was under “Youth for Christ International.” In 1952, he entered the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He majored in Hebrew and Old Testament studies, and in 1960 he received his bachelor and master’s degrees in divinity. Dr. Juroe was in the pastorate for 12 years, having served two Baptist churches in Philadelphia and Livingston, New Jersey.

He also directed several youth camps founded by Dr. Percy Crawford. He then entered the field of Jewish missions and served six years as the director. He was also the professor of Old Testament, Hebrew Intro-duction, Church History, Modern Theology and Jewish Evangelism at the Capitol Bible Seminary. In 1968 he moved to Southern California and took a position of managing editor for the Christian Freedom Foundation. In 1975, he met his wife Bonnie. He had a private counseling practice for almost 30 years at the Yorba Park Medical Clinic in Orange, California. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and taught in this field at the UC Riverside. He has written 11 books with co-authors Bonnie Juroe, Dr. Ted Engstrom, Lawrence Welk and Dr. Annie Bukacek. During this period Dr. Juroe also served successfully in several interim pastorate positions. He and his wife Bonnie also appeared many times on TV and radio talk shows speaking on psychological issues.

In 1999, his family moved to the Flathead Valley.

Dr. David was preceded in death by his parents, and daughters Janice Eisenberger and Christina Hoffman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bonnie; sons, James and John (Kelly) Juroe; daughters, Judy (Nicki) Heydari, Julie (Ron) Reichard, Wendy (Gary) Lepper, and Davonna (Andrew) Juroe; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Crossroads Church in Bigfork with burial at the Bigfork Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dr. Juroe’s name to the Crossroads Church Counseling Center. His “life verse” taken from the Bible: “Only serve the Lord with all your heart for consider what great things He hath done for you” — I Samuel 12:24.
