City gears up for U.S. 93 corridor study

A kick-off meeting for the U.S. 93 South corridor study in Whitefish will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at National Parks Realty, 601 Spokane Ave.

Those attending can drop in anytime during the two-hour session. City staff and the corridor plan steering committee will be taking comments from the public regarding issues, concerns and opportunities to improve the corridor, as they review existing conditions along the highway corridor.

At a second public meeting later this fall the city will solicit feedback on the community’s vision for the corridor. An online survey also is forthcoming.

The corridor plan will focus on future land use for U.S. 93 South from Sixth Street to Blanchard Lake Road south of Montana 40. The corridor is the gateway entrance into Whitefish from the south and is primarily zoned secondary business with some mixed use and residential land uses included.

A draft corridor plan is expected to be completed by spring 2019,and will give residents an opportunity to review the goals, objectives and proposed policies.
