Bravettes best West in 5

GREAT FALLS — Flathead defeated Billings West 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12 at C.M. Russell High School on Thursday evening in a Class AA nonconference volleyball matchup.

The Bravettes kept battling back and won in thrilling fashion.

“It took us that first game to kind of find our rhythm,” Flathead coach Nicole Fairclough said.

“We passed really well and whenever we pass really well, everything else kind of stems from that and so it was a really good match. It was good to see when we lost, we came back and didn’t let down.”

Julia Burden had six service aces. Maddie Boles recorded 16 kills and Maddie Lindbom was strong on defense with 16 of Flathead’s 37 digs.

Flathead begins pool play at the Electric City Invitational today in Great Falls.

Billings Senior 3, Glacier 0

GREAT FALLS — Billings Senior took care of Glacier, winning 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 at Great Falls High School in nonconference Class AA play.

Kali Gulick led Glacier in kills (seven) and aces (two) and shared the team high in blocks (three) with Aubrie Rademacher.

“We didn’t pass well tonight,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

“Senior served aggressively.”

Glacier begins action at the Electric City Invitational today with pool play at 9 a.m. versus Helena Capital at Great Falls High. The tournament runs through Saturday.

Columbia Falls 3, Ronan 0

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Wildkats had no trouble knocking off Ronan, winning 25-10, 25-22, 25-13.

“Tonight I saw more consistency out of my hitters and our offense was more spread out,” Columbia Falls coach Jolandie Brooks said.

“Hannah Schweikert, our setter, had five kills herself. We did a good job of mixing up our sets. Our defense looked a little better ... girls are starting to hit the floor more. Our goal is to stay driven and competitive.”

Schweikert notched 21 of 25 team assists and two service aces. On defense, Angelica Street had 17 digs and Mady Hoerner had eight.

For Ronan, Madeline McCrea had 14 kills and Tiana Ulutoa had 11 assists and 12 digs.

Columbia Falls plays at Stevensville on Saturday.

EUREKA — Eureka beat Mission 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23 in Class B play.

Avory Escobar recorded 21 assists and five aces, while Maggie Graves had 17 kills for the victors. Eureka’s Sienna Utter had 15 kills and 11 digs.

Eureka hosts Thompson Falls on Sept. 15.

For Frenchtown, Maggie Kaiser had 22 assists, Taylor Garren 16 digs, and Kiya Shelton six kills.

Frenchtown hosts Corvallis on Saturday.
