Anderson's late TD lifts Whitefish over Butte Central, 28-27

WHITEFISH — Mark Anderson scored on a 3-yard run with 1:15 remaining and Carver Gilman kicked the extra point to give Whitefish a thrilling 28-27 Class A nonconference football victory over Butte Central on Friday night at Memorial Field.

Whitefish (1-2) converted on fourth and 10 from the Butte Central 20 to keep the drive alive when Anderson hit Josh Dudley on a post corner for 17 yards to put the ball at the Butte Central 3-yard line. Anderson scored on the next play.

Anderson was 6 of 13 passing for 107 yards. He rushed for 89 yards on 15 attempts.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls bounced back from last week’s season opening loss to Hamilton by dumping Dillon in a Class A nonconference test.

Colton McPhee had touchdown runs of 47, 5, 10 and 3 yards and scored on a 24-yard pass from Drew Morgan.

Morgan also had touchdown passes to Parker Greene and Brad Nieves.

Columbia Falls (1-1) led 28-6 at the half.

Columbia Falls had 548 yards of total offense to 357 for Dillon.

McPhee rushed for 214 yards on 21 carries.

Morgan was 12 of 25 for 194 yards.

BIGFORK — Randy Stultz returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and ran for two more as Bigfork whipped Florence-Carlton in Class B play.

Anders Epperly hooked up with Luke Schmit on two scoring plays and ran 2 yards for another TD.

Epperly was 16 of 21 passing for 200 yards.

Luke Taylor and Stultz both had 95 rushing yards for Bigfork.

Schmit finished with 9 receptions for 87 yards.

THOMPSON FALLS — Hank Dunn threw for three touchdowns and 215 yards as Eureka thumped Thompson Falls in Class B play.

Dunn was 12 of 15 passing with no interceptions.

Terell Helgert rushed 7 times for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also had three receptions for 92 yards and a score.

Cory Chaney had five receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

Eureka had 354 yrds in total offense to 182 for Thompson Falls.
