HELENA — Glacier pressured Helena High for much of play before the Bengals regrouped in the late going to pull out a 5-3 Western AA victory on Saturday in girls soccer.

Glacier, on goals by Kenzie Williams and Micah Hickethier, held a 2-0 lead after 42 minutes of play.

Helena High then answered with four goals to go on top 4-2.

Madison Becker, who assisted on Hickethier’s score, netted a shot to get the Wolfpack within one, but Bailey Root finished the scoring for Helena High with a goal at 80 minutes.

On Friday, Glacier picked up its first victory of the season by topping Helena Capital 1-0. Becker had the game-winner in that one with Emily Cleveland assisting. That goal was at 22 minutes.

“Friday was spectacular,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“The first 50 minutes of Helena High was great.”

In the Capital win ...

“We played a complete game,” Byrd said.

“Everyone did their job, stuck to a game plan and stayed with it until the end.”

He said his team “ran out of gas” in the late going against the Bengals.

“To lead Helena High for most of the game was new territory for us,” he added.

Glacier (1-4-1 overall, 1-3 Western AA) plays at Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday.
