Kalispell Public Schools is looking for a candidate to fill a school board vacancy representing the elementary district.

The seat was vacated by Mary Tepas who stepped down because she has moved to a residence outside of elementary district boundaries. Tepas has served on the board since 2015.

Eligible candidates must be registered voters living within elementary district boundaries. The elementary district includes Edgerton, Elrod, Hedges, Peterson, Rankin and Russell elementary schools in addition to Kalispell Middle School. Elementary trustees vote on elementary and high school issues. The person selected to the board will serve until the May 2019 election.

A trustee is a volunteer position. Trustees are responsible for making decisions that impact how schools operate. Duties may include adopting policies and budgets, managing the collective bargaining process, setting achievement goals and holding schools accountable.

People interested in serving may submit a letter of interest to Beth Kornick, administrative assistant to the superintendent, by email at kornickb@sd5.k12.mt.us, or mail to KPS District 5, 233 First Ave. E., Kalispell, MT 59901. Letters must be received by the school district on Oct. 1.

Interviews will be scheduled with eligible candidates before a selection is made.

For more information call Kornick at 751-3434.
